Parking meters are $1.25 per hour. Fines for expired time are $10.00, or $9.00 if you pay online, for the first seven days. If a citation is not paid within seven days the cost will increase by $15.00, according to City Ordinance 10.06.120. You have the opportunity to save $1 by paying your citation on-line. It is illegal to deposit additional coins in the meter after the time limit has been reached. This is also called “plugging” the meter.
Not all meters accept the same type of coin. Each meter will state the type of coins it accepts. Most parking meters over a 1-hour time limit, will accept a VISA or MasterCard.
Football Day-of-Game Meter Hangtags
On Husker home game days, the Parking Services Division offers hangtags for all-day parking at any on-street meter without fear of getting a ticket. These hangtags are available for $10 each & can be purchased at most parking garages from the time parking attendants arrive until supplies last.
