Happy Holidays from DLA’s staff!

The holidays are right around the corner and businesses downtown have been busy preparing for the season. This year, don’t miss out on all the performances, live music and holiday cheer downtown.

Holidays in the Haymarket
When: Friday, December 7th and 14th, starts at 6pm
What: Celebrate the Holidays on Fridays nights; Nov 30th, Dec 7th and Dec 14th! Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides for the public. Entertainment in front of the Creamery Building (7th & P) and at the Holiday inn Downtown (9th & P). Santa Claus and Carolers will be strolling the Haymarket!
Entertainment by Lincoln Boys’s Chorale Choir, Starstruck Dance Academy, Doeden Line Dancers, Lincoln Boys Concert Choir,Capitol City Dance Shack, Waverly Intermediate School Choir, Cheer and Dance Express. Also,High School Music groups in the Holiday Inn Lobby.

Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas
When: December 7th-9th
What: The ladies serve up a holiday sequel to the original Church Basement Ladies comedy. It is the 1959 Sunday School Christmas Program. As the children rehearse, kitchen ladies are finishing up goodie bags and touching up Nativity pieces. Little do they know what surprises await when they are called upon to step in and save the day. Sun Newspapers raved, “You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and then laugh some more!”

A Cornhusker Christmas
When: December 6th-16th
What: This holiday season stop by the small fictional town of Timberwoods, Nebraska as the townspeople gather together for their annual holiday show on K.O.R.N radio. During the program the live studio audience is introduced to an array of colorful characters, comical tales and holiday songs. Everything is going great until the station is informed of some unfortunate news. Not to let the humbug pull them down, the townspeople gather in the spirit of giving, reminding everyone what the true meaning on the holidays is all about. The award winning TADA Productions, Inc. continues its tradition of bringing original theatrical productions to the stage with this musical comedy and special collaboration with NET radio!

Candy House Fun Shop
When: December 6th-16th
What: You’ll get everything you need including frosting, candy, cookies and more to make your own Candy House. Bring your creativity and they’ll take care of the clean up!

Bad Santa 2-Day Christmas Party
When: December 7th and 8th
What: n Fri. & Sat. Dec. 7-8, 2012 (dead week weekend) come throw some back, and play our traditional Christmas drinking game for free drinks, discounts, gag gifts, and MORE! The inflatable gallery of Bad Santa’s Reindeer will be suspended in mid-air by jets that looks like hairdryers on steroids. The object will be to hurl your snowballs at the Reindeer to knock them off the air stream, and you WIN!

3rd Annual Holiday Ball
When: December 9, 5:30 pm-9:30 pm
What: An evening of social dancing, cocktails, dinner, entertainment, and silent auction. A charity event for Habitat for Humanity. The night starts off with an hour of butlered hors d’oeuvres and complimentary cocktails, followed by dinner. The silent auction is to benefit Habitat for Humanity and features donations from Lincoln-area vendors. There will be plenty of social dancing, with brief interludes with performances and demonstrations.

It’s a Wonderful Life
When: December 13th-22nd
What: This Holiday Season, join the Haymarket Theatre as we proudly present the stage adaptation of the classic Frank Capras film, It’s A Wonderful Life. On Christmas Eve in the small town of Bedford Falls, George Bailey’s life is forever changed when his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody, shows to him a world where he had never been born. This is a heart warming story about the true meaning of love, friendship, and family. It’s A Wonderful Life is one that is not to be missed.

The Nutcracker | Lincoln Midwest Ballet Company
When: December 15th and 16th
What: The Lincoln Midwest Ballet Company will present its 28th Anniversary production of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker, at the Lied Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, December 15, at 2 p.m.and 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 16 at 2 p.m. The Lincoln Midwest Ballet Company’s Nutcracker features nearly 200 student dancers from southeastern Nebraska in a performance that also features a live orchestra and nationally-known guest artists. The classic story of the Nutcracker comes to life with the finest choreography, costumes, and scenery, making this production a treasured Lincoln tradition. The cast of the Nutcracker is comprised of local dance students who are selected by audition.

Elks 105th Annual Free Childrens’ Christmas Party
