The Bike Corral, located on the 12th Street side of the Center Park Garage, is a secured parking facility for bicycles. Mayor Beutler says, “Residents indicated they would be more likely to bike to work if they could lock up their bikes in a secure place close to work and out of the weather.” This bicycle corral not only provides storage out of the weather, but also has room for more than 40 bicycles. The 40+ racks are contained in a fenced enclosure and can only be accessed with a key card assigned to the corral.
To acquire a key card, a Bicycle Storage Agreement must be filled out, signed and brought into the City of Lincoln Parking Office. There is no charge for those who pay for monthly vehicle parking, at any City owned facility, and a small, $5 per month charge for those who don’t. Bicycle storage is set up on a month-to-month basis. Upon delivery of the Agreement form, the Parking Office will collect the first month’s $5 and assign a key card, a $10 fee for non-monthly parkers. An identification sticker will be issued & needs to be placed on the back of the seat pillar.
This project was an effort of the Great Plains Trails Network (GPTN) and the City departments of Planning, Public Works, Health, and Urban Development. A portion of the funding was provided as a result of a supplemental environmental project with NEBCO, Inc.
